Tracker mortgage customers Urged to make overpayments

Tue, 22 Sep 2009

Unbiased.co.uk has released figures showing that 53% of tracker, discount and SVR mortgage holders are not making overpayments on their mortgage, despite now being the prime time with rates at an all time low.

The figures reveal that only 1 in 5 mortgage holders has kept their monthly repayments at pre-recession levels in a bid to reduce their overall mortgage commitment.

The report also revealed many are using the surplus mortgage monies to service other debts or treat themselves.

Chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, David Elms, said: "Tracker and standard variable rate mortgage borrowers have watched interest rates plunge to record lows during this year, presenting an ideal opportunity to pay off their outstanding mortgage more quickly."
