Scottish house prices fall, but turnaround expected

New figures released have shown a marked deflation in property prices in Scotland, but many experts expect this trend is soon to turn.

Figures for the first quarter of 2009 showed a reduction in house prices of 4.3%, however figures for the second quarter have shown a much more narrow 1.4% reduction.

Many experts believes this points to a reversal of the trend and Professor Donald MacRae, chief economist for Lloyds TSB Scotland, said that though many mortgage holders have seen reduced rates due to the recession, "there are positive signs that not only has the bottom been reached but that a recovery is beginning to take root".

The Bank of England said recently mortgage approvals for the UK rose in June, hinting to a pick up in the housing market . Whilst the Land Registry house price index shows an improvement of 0.1% in English and Welsh house values
