Remortgages see rise in enquiries

Tuesday 11th August 2009

More and more people are seeking advice about remortgaging an existing or new property, according to research from Unbiased.co.uk.

The financial advice website said that enquiries about remortgages from consumers increased by 5% in June, accounting for a total of 33% of all requests to the firm.

First-time buyers looking for whole of market mortgage advice remains the top enquiry type, with a 41 per cent share in the month; advice for residential property loans are the third-most asked for option.

Chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, David Elms, said: "These latest figures suggest a stirring amongst those thinking about re-mortgaging, after the previous two months drop in re-mortgage enquiries. More of those looking to remortgage are now seeking a whole of market mortgage adviser."

Many analysts believe the recent surge in remortgage advice requests is a result of prudent buyers seeking a good deal while the rates are low.
