Mortgage market sees cautious optimism

Thu, 17 Sep 2009

More people are able to take out a mortgage as lenders become more optimistic about the environment, new research suggests.

A recent survey conducted by the Building Societies Association revealed that 49% of respondents seeking a mortgage feel they have no access to lending at the end of Q3, compared to 55% at the end of Q2 and 58% for the end of Q1.

Furthermore the research revealed 58% of respondents believe now is a good time to buy.

Head of mortgage policy at the BSA, Paul Broadhead said: "It is clear that home buyers are increasingly viewing the property market in a positive light as confidence increases in the market. However, buyers are clearly treading with care, and worries over job security continue to deter many from buying."
