Thu, 27 Aug 2009
Good news for those seeking a new mortgage, a new report shows mortgage lender fees have been coming down over the past 12 months.
The average fee on a two-year fixed-rate mortgage is some 30% cheaper than in 2008 at £957, while three-year products typical charge is down some 26% to £808 in the same period.
Extra payments on tracker mortgages have also seen significant reductions of 24% from £1,581 to £1,272 in the past 12 months.
The news comes as First Direct prepares to cut its fees on all offset mortgage products it offers.
Whilst this reduction in fee’s is good news for the market, it is likely being funded by the ever growing distance between base rate and mortgage rate.
