HSBC has reported that enquiries have doubled since introducing its new low rate discount deal earlier this month.
The market seems to be showing an insatiable thirst for HSBC’s new 1.99% discount mortgage which is available for a those with £1,199 for arrangement fees and a 40% deposit.
HSBC’s mortgage website has seen an increase in users of 50% and telephone enquiries are up 78% in September, compared to July/August.
Head of mortgages at HSBC, Martijn van der Heijden, is reported to have said: "Since announcing the 1.99% deal we have seen a huge amount of interest from customers. Although there's been some unfounded speculation that the deal would be reserved for a minority, in reality well over half the UK's 11.5 million mortgage holders qualify for the deal."
